Sustainability at College

Armagh Solar

Southern Regional College is committed to establishing the highest possible standards of sustainability across all our core activities. We recognise the role of education in enabling students to develop the knowledge, skills, values, and behaviours needed for sustainable development, ensuring they are equipped to meet the rapidly changing demands of the world. We recognise our role in contributing to local and national initiatives regarding carbon reduction and the climate emergency. We have recently signed up to the SDG Accord and have committed to reporting annually on the progress we make in contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Reports from all signatory institutions are collated to provide a summary report of how both the further and higher education sectors are contributing to the SDGs globally which is presented each year to the UN High Level Political Forum.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

UN

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of seventeen interlinked global goals that are designed to be a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. They are an urgent call for action by all countries, both developed and developing, in a global partnership. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth, all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. The SDGs were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.

Sustainability Report 2023/24

Our Staff

To aid in our commitment to establishing the highest levels of sustainability across all our activities, the College has a Sustainability Working Group that promotes, coordinates and monitors the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives across the College. Each department is required to annually evaluate and report on the progress they have made in embedding the SDGs within their practices as part of their sectional reviews. This also includes work within our four academic faculties, who throughout the year, promote and encourage student awareness and engagement with sustainability and the SDGs within the context of their specialist areas.

College Led Projects

The Student Engagement Team can offer all students aged 16-25 access to the C-Card Condom distribution scheme via a new morning advice clinic.

What is the C-Card Condom distribution scheme?

The Morning Advice Clinic is a confidential service designed to provide students with access to free condoms and sexual health information. We understand that navigating sexual health can sometimes be daunting, which is why we're committed to providing our students with the necessary support and resources to stay safe and informed during their time at College.

What the C-Card Condom distribution scheme can offer:

  • Free Condoms: We believe that access to protection should never be a barrier. By registering for the C-Card Condom distribution scheme, students have access to a wide range of condoms, completely free of charge. Whether you prefer latex, non-latex, flavoured, or textured condoms, we've got you covered.
  • Confidentiality: The privacy of our students is our top priority. All interactions with the Morning Advice Clinic are strictly confidential. Students can access condoms and sexual health information without fear of judgment or disclosure.
  • Expert Advice: Our trained staff members are here to provide students with accurate information and guidance regarding sexual health. Whether they have questions about contraception, STI testing, or general sexual well-being, our team is here to support students every step of the way.
  • Empowerment: Taking control of your sexual health is empowering. By participating in the C-Card Condom distribution scheme, students will make a proactive decision to prioritise their well-being and safety. Everyone has the right to make informed choices about their own bodies and health, and we're here to help them do just that.

The C-Card Condom distribution scheme can be accessed through the 'Morning Advice Clinic'!
