Eight students from the Faculty of Health & Science (HESC) at Southern Regional College (SRC) have recently returned from a two-week mobility work placement in Finland, where they had the opportunity to work in a childcare/kindergarten setting and learn about the Finnish culture and education system.

The students, who are studying Childrens’ Care, Learning and Development at SRC, were accompanied by five SRC staff members and were hosted by the Diakonia College of Finland, SRC’s Finnish partner. The placement was organised by the College’s External Funding & International Affairs Team and funded by the Turing Programme; a UK government programme providing international opportunities to study abroad.

The students worked alongside Finnish staff and children, observing and participating in various activities and routines. They also had the chance to visit Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, on a day trip by ferry.

One of the students said: “I would recommend that anyone wishing to do a placement abroad, do it. It is an amazing opportunity.”

The mobility work placement was part of SRC’s ongoing commitment to provide international opportunities for its students and staff, as well as to foster cooperation and exchange of good practices with its partner institutions across Europe and beyond.
