Overview

The OCN NI Level 3 Award in Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) has been developed to provide an understanding of ACEs, their impact and how they may be mitigated or prevented. This course aims to equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognise and respond effectively to the needs of individuals who have experienced ACEs.

Adverse Childhood Experiences refer to stressful or traumatic events that occur during childhood, including physical or emotional abuse, neglect, household dysfunction, or exposure to violence. Such experiences can have profound and long-lasting effects on individuals' physical and mental health, behaviour, and social functioning.

Throughout this course, learners will explore the theoretical underpinnings of ACEs and their consequences. They will investigate the complex interplay between biology, psychology, and social factors in shaping an individual's response to ACEs. Additionally, learners will examine the various protective factors that can mitigate the negative impacts of ACEs and promote resilience.
