Overview

This unit is part of the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification which provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment.

This unit provides the knowledge and understanding required to support the safeguarding of children and young people in a school setting.

The objectives of this qualification are to:

Provide learners with knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment
Provide a stepping stone into further learning within the sector.

This is a knowledge only unit. Work/industry placement experience is not required.

There are no formal entry requirement for this courses but applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Learning outcomes include:

Understand legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding children and young people.
Understand how to work in partnership with other organisations to safeguard children and young people.
Understand the need to ensure children and young people’s safety and protection in the learning environment.
Understand how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused or harmed.
Understand how to work with children and young people to support their well-being.

This unit is graded as Achieved/Not Yet Achieved.

The unit is internally assessed and externally quality assured through a portfolio of evidence.

Learners who achieve this qualification may wish to progress to the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning or other professional development programmes.
