Overview

The Providing Positive Support for Children with Learning Disabilities Level 2 Award is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective and compassionate support to children with learning disabilities. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to understanding learning disabilities and focuses on strategies for promoting positive outcomes and enhancing the well-being of children.

Throughout this course, participants will explore the diverse range of learning disabilities experienced by children. They will develop a deep understanding of the impact of learning disabilities on cognitive, social, and emotional development, as well as the challenges faced by children in their educational journey.

This course is funded through the Skill Up programme. All applicants must meet the following entry requirements.

Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before the course start date.
Applicants must be eligible to work in Northern Ireland.
Applicants must be ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years; or are a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

Candidates are only permitted to complete a maximum of two free courses at a time.

Modules:

Understand learning disability terminology, legislation, policies, and strategies.
Understand the role and responsibilities of learning disability early years practitioners.
Understand the challenges faced by families of children with learning disabilities and related support services.
Understand learning disability environments and strategies to improve learning for children with a learning disability.
Understand sensory processing and the impact of exploratory play in an early year’s context.
Understand communication, possible barriers, and challenging behaviours.

This award will be internally assessed and externally quality assured through completion of coursework.

Learners may progress to further continuous professional development courses within childcare, early years and special educational needs within the College.
