Overview

The Hair and Beauty Management Level 5 Extended Diploma is an complete programme designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic and thriving hair and beauty industry. This diploma focuses on developing a strong foundation in both the technical and managerial aspects of the industry, preparing students for leadership roles in hair and beauty salons, spas, wellness centres, and related businesses.

Throughout the course, students will explore a wide range of subjects related to hair and beauty management. They will study topics such as salon operations, business management, customer service, marketing and branding, retail management, staff development, and finance. Students will gain insights into the latest trends, techniques, and innovations in hair and beauty, as well as the business strategies required to succeed in the industry.

Hair and beauty business management is a key focus of the diploma programme. Students will learn essential management principles and practices, including human resource management, financial management, marketing strategies, business development, and entrepreneurship. They will explore how to create a business plan, manage budgets, develop marketing campaigns, and build a strong client base. Students will also gain an understanding of legal and regulatory considerations specific to the hair and beauty industry.

The course also covers the broader context in which the hair and beauty industry operates. Students will study subjects such as industry trends and innovations, sustainability practices, health and safety regulations, and the importance of diversity and inclusion. They will explore the evolving role of technology in hair and beauty management, including the use of digital platforms for marketing, scheduling, and client management.

The over-riding consideration in admitting applicants to this course, is evidence that the learner is likely to be able to complete the course satisfactorily.

Attendance at Individual or Group Pre-Entry Advice Sessions (IPEAS and GPEAS) may be required. These interviews may take place either on campus, via telephone or video call (Microsoft teams) and will play an important role in place allocation.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age on or before 1st July 2024.

Applicants must have attained a a Level 3 in either Hairdressing, Barbering or Beauty Therapy or equivalent.
Applicants must have attained at least 15 points at Level 2 or above (e.g. GCSE) or have alternative approved qualifications. In addition, applicants must provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English Language. For entry to this programme, applicants should have attained a C grade in GCSE English language and a C grade in GCSE Maths (or equivalent).
Applicants who do not meet the criteria outlined above but have evidence of substantial knowledge or relevant industrial experience and skills, which has not been formally assessed, should refer to the College’s Accreditation of Prior Experience and Learning (APEL) Policy.

Please note that applicants progressing to higher education courses at Level 4 and above in the College or UK Universities may require a specific GCSE/ A-Level profile. In some cases, the Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy may not be a suitable alternative to a GCSE. It is the responsibility of the applicant to check each University’s progression requirements before enrolling on a course at the College.

Learning and teaching methods, which will enable the outcomes to be achieved include lectures, seminars, group work, peer assessment, personal and group tutorials, self-directed learning and guest speakers.

Assessment methods that enable the outcomes to be demonstrated include written assignments, practical work, case studies and group presentations.

The assessment of OCN NI qualifications is criterion-referenced and centres are required to assess learners’ evidence against published learning outcomes and assessment criteria. All units will be individually graded as pass or fail. In order to achieve a pass in a unit, all learning outcomes and associated assessment criteria have to be met.

Uniform: You will be required to purchase uniform if you do not already have one. The current price is £22 (this is reviewed annually by the College and may be subject to change).

Stationery: Also required by students, which will be approximately £20 per year.

This qualification will enable learners to progress to further higher education courses related to the industry or to management, many of which are offered at SRC.

The Hair and Beauty Management Level 5 Extended Diploma provides a pathway for students to pursue various career paths in the hair and beauty industry. Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will be well-prepared for roles such as salon manager, spa manager, beauty brand manager, salon owner, or beauty business consultant. They may find employment in hair and beauty salons, spas, wellness centres, retail chains, or pursue entrepreneurial ventures in the industry.
