Overview

GCSE Mathematics is now a key requirement for many job roles as it demonstrates an understanding and ability to work with numbers. Mathematics GCSE includes transferable skills, which may help learners in a range of other subjects.

Students will learn how to use problem-solving strategies and to work efficiently by breaking down complex situations into simpler steps. Individuals will be able to explore, identify and interpret mathematical situations and communicate them clearly.

This subject is a requirement for a majority of higher education courses and for employment.

Students must be able to demonstrate that they can communicate in written and spoken English language to an acceptable level to succeed on the course. The College reserves the right to refer any applicant to appropriate English language or literacy classes until their level of fluency in written and spoken English is sufficient to allow participation in other areas of study.

This is a one year modular course covering:

Number and algebra
Shape, space and measures
Handling data.

Assessment is though two external examinations.

This is an essential subject for progression to A-Levels and also Level 3 BTEC qualifications. Students will need this qualification for university applications. Most employers also expect individuals to have GCSE at grade C or above.
