Overview

The Cyber Security Level 5 Certificate is an advanced programme designed for professionals seeking to deepen their expertise in cyber security and enhance their ability to protect organisations from increasingly sophisticated threats. This course builds on foundational knowledge and provides participants with the skills necessary to implement comprehensive security strategies, manage risk, and lead cyber security initiatives.

The aim of this course is to enable the learner to understand how to secure computer networks, understand cyber security from both defensive and offensive perspectives and how to implement and manage the security of computer networks from an industry perspective.

Applicants should have achieved:

At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.
Have robust IT skills and have a related level 3 ICT based qualification or be employed in a job/sector that involves Cyber Security and its real-world applications.
Ideally candidates should have completed a Level 4 Cyber Security. This qualification builds the skills and knowledge acquired from the Level 4 Certificate.

This course is funded through the Skill Up programme. All applicants must meet the following entry requirements.

Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before the course start date.
Applicants must be eligible to work in Northern Ireland.
Applicants must be ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years; or are a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

Candidates are only permitted to complete a maximum of two free courses at a time.

The objectives of the qualification will cover the following areas:

Computer security technology and principles management tools
Software security and trusted systems
Cryptographic algorithms and network security
Management issues

This course will be assessed via coursework, exams and active engagement in group activities.

Upon completing the Cyber Security Level 5 Certificate, participants may pursue further studies in specialised certifications, degree programmes in Cyber Security or Information Technology or advanced courses in areas such as ethical hacking, digital forensics, or cloud security.

This certificate opens up a variety of advanced career paths in the field of cyber security, including Cyber Security Manager, Information Security Consultant, Security Architect, Incident Response Manager or Risk and Compliance Officer.
