Are you looking to enhance your career in the field of advice and guidance? This qualification offers an excellent opportunity for learners to gain the skills and underpinning knowledge required for a broad range of roles where information, advice and guidance is provided in a professional or voluntary role. You could be working in careers guidance, for a trade union, in a school, in housing, human resources or in health and social care.

The qualification is designed for those who are either already working in or planning to work in advisory roles, where you'll be offering guidance, support, and information to individuals to help them make informed decisions about their personal and professional lives. You'll develop crucial skills in communication, client-centred approaches, problem-solving, and understanding different guidance frameworks.

This course will have one weekly session for course delivery (Monday) and after Easter holidays April 2025 a second weekly session for mentoring and support (Thursday). It is recommended that learners undertake independent study to achieve this qualification.

Entry requirements

This course is funded through the Skill Up programme. All applicants must meet the following entry requirements.

Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before the course start date.
Applicants must be eligible to work in Northern Ireland
Applicants must be ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland, and have been ordinary resident in the UK for at least three years, or are a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

Candidates are only permitted to complete a maximum of two free courses at a time.

What will I study

Learners must complete mandatory units including:

Establish communication with clients for advice and guidance
Support clients to make use of the advice and guidance service
Review own contribution to the service
Understand the importance of legislation and procedures

A combination of optional units will be selected to achieve level 3 qualification.

How will I be accessed?

There is no exam as part of this qualification, assessment will include a portfolio of evidence to meet the criteria of the qualification, recognition of prior learning and successfully following of a development programme. Active engagement in discussions and group activities will contribute to overall assessment.
